Tell CCAMLR to stand up to the exploitative krill fishing industry

A decade of inaction. An accelerating crisis. Antarctica can’t wait any longer.

The Southern Ocean is one of the most vital and fragile ecosystems on Earth. It sustains iconic wildlife like whales, penguins, and seals, and plays a critical role in regulating our planet’s climate. Yet industrial krill fishing is expanding into the very feeding grounds these species depend on — and the system designed to protect them is failing.

The Convention for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources (CCAMLR), the international body responsible for protecting Antarctic marine life, has been in deadlock for nearly a decade. Political and commercial interests have prevented meaningful conservation progress, despite overwhelming scientific evidence and global support.

The upcoming CCAMLR meeting in Australia this October will be a defining moment. As Chair, the UK has a unique responsibility to champion the prevail of this stalemate and lead a renewed push for urgent conservation protections.

With Antarctica on the brink and our global climate and biodiversity under threat, the world is watching.

It’s time to restore CCAMLR’s legacy — and protect Our Antarctica for generations to come.

Campaign goals

Close Antarctica to krill fishing

to protect wildlife in the Southern Ocean, and safeguard ecosystems and global climate stability.

Create a new Marine Protected Area

as a minimum first step toward an ecologically representative network of MPAs in the Southern Ocean.

Reform CCAMLR

to ensure the implementation of its conservation mandate to protect Antarctic wildlife.

Protect 30% of Antarctica’s waters

as a key contribution by CCAMLR countries to the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework 30×30 target.

What happens next?

Your message will go directly to Mr Robbie Bulloch’s inbox at this critical moment ahead of the next CCAMLR meeting in October, to call upon him as the CCAMLR Chair, to guide Antarctic marine protection out of a decade-long stalemate and achieve conservation progress.

By taking this quick action, you’re bringing us closer to securing the future of the Southern Ocean.
